Rebecca F. Bundy, Design for Sustainable Living, LLC specializes in design of residences that are healthy for their occupants, minimize environmental impact, reflect the client’s living style and are exquisitely beautiful.

We strive to incorporate passive solar design, natural heating and cooling, into each design.  Passive solar design involves good siting and proper heat mitigation strategies and does not dictate architectural style.  We use our own experience, traditional rules of thumb, and a passive solar software program to evaluate the effectiveness of our passive solar design.

We incorporate aesthetic strategies for alternative means of energy, including masonry wood heaters, wood furnaces, photovoltaic solar electricity and active solar heating systems.  When we use conventional heating and cooling systems, we have them designed to maximize efficiency.

We design with new environmentally-conscious structural systems, such as insulated concrete forms, structural insulated panels and value-engineered framing techniques.  These techniques use less wood resources and are better insulated than standard wood frame construction.  Our homes generally perform to 20-35% better than state energy codes, even before the passive solar advantages are considered.  We strive to achieve Zero-Energy homes for those who want to achieve that level of energy consciousness.

We specify environmentally-friendly products, from Forest Stewardship Council certified framing lumber to recycled finish materials.  We strive to specify local products that do not have to travel long distances to the construction site.

We also are very concerned about indoor air quality.  Super-insulated homes require an air-to-air heat exchanger system to provide fresh make-up air.  We specify low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint and stain and low formaldehyde cabinetry and trim.

We are well-versed in design of small, but very livable, homes to minimize consumption of construction materials and heating requirements.  These homes are designed to provide a sense of space and volume without actually being larger than the average American home.

A home designed by Rebecca F. Bundy, Design for Sustainable Living, LLC will provide a healthy and beautiful living environment for a long future.  Each is custom designed to meet the client’s functional, aesthetic and budget requirements.  Each is also designed with the health of the clients and our planet as primary concerns.
